Frequently Asked Production Questions
Why are the colors on my computer screen different than on my printed proofs?
The project may have been initially been designed in RGB (Red, Green, Blue) color mode which is the industry default for most graphic applications. We design and print in 4 – 8 colors CNYK + spot color (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black). The Reds, Greens & Blues will lose value after the conversion and it won’t look the same. We produce all of our files in CMYK+. If you were to produce your own files in RGB, we would need to convert them for you and there will be some color variation

Will the colors from my desk top printer match the printed pieces?
Due to most desktop printers being toner based the ability to match exact color is limited. We will produce “printer proofs” which will more accurately represent what you finished product will look like.

Can you match a previously printed sample?
Due to varying technologies used in printing, there is no guarantee that your finished product will match a previously printed piece. This is mainly due to varying results from different output devices such as inkjet, bubble-jet, laser printers, offset presses and web presses. Even from one commercial printer to another, there can be a wide variation in results. In an effort to match desired colors, we require that hi- res. “printer proofs” are approved by the client for color & content.

Do I still need to approve a proof if I send you files via email or post to your FTP site?
Yes. It may seem like a proof wouldn’t be needed in this case, but it really is. Output devices process digital information using a variety of processing languages. Your approval on proofs assures that the output device used has correctly processed the files you’ve provided

Should I compress my files using programs like Winzip or Stuffit?
If you’re sending files via email or uploading to our  FTP site, then compressing them before sending is a great idea. This allows your document, all supporting files and fonts to be included into one easy to handle file.
